Analysis of efficiency of homepages in search engines

How do search engines work?

Search engines are used - just like the name states - to find content in the world wide web (www). The used robots (spiders) from search engine providers are searching the internet automatically and follow all the found homepage links. The homepages founded are analysed according to guidelines and integrated into the index (data base).

If you type a keyword or a combination of words into the search field, the search engine compares this with it's database and generates appropriate results. The sequence of the results (ranking) is identified upon different criteria.

An accurate source code is the basic principle

If a searching robot (spider) identifies a wrongly designed homepage than it can result in the break off of the indexing. The faulty homepages are not integrated into the database and are not listed in the ranking.

Technical barriers for search engines

Besides of accurate source codes also technical barriers can lead to not finding a homepage. This accurs if navigation elements are designed with JavaApplet, JavaScript or Macromedia Flash. Some search robots (spiders) cannot analyse these programm technics and break off the indexing. Furthermore it is disadvantageous to use frames or iframes.

Dynamic homepage give problems

The content of dynamic homepages are based on databases and are edited mostly by using Content Management Systems. For the host of the homepage it has a lot of benefits, but for search enginges it can be a disadvantage. If the links do not contain key words, problems can accur. If this is the case, it has to be corrected.

The content is the King

Most important ingredient of a homepage is its content - the written word. The more content (text) is available, the higher the chance to be listed on the first page of search engines. Because these are functioning on a simple principal: "Those saying alot, can be important." And if another homepage is linked to yours, search engines are happy about thisWichtigster Bestandteil einer Webseite ist : "If other homepages are linked to them, it must be important".

Complex animations (flash), graphics and images also are part of the content of your internet presence, but only that they cannot evaluate with the content as they are no words.
